Market Basket

Heidi Prescott perfected her shirt-folding technique working at a mall-based women's apparel shop, managed employees at a fast food restaurant, served hamburgers out a drive-through window and cleaned up salsa spills while busing tables. Since joining the South Bend Tribune in 1994, she has spent much of her time covering the local retail and restaurant scene. Her Market Basket column appears Fridays and Sundays on the business cover of the Tribune's print edition. Email Heidi: hprescott@sbtinfo.com

Lindsay also enjoys visiting new restaurants, organizing anything, bargain hunting, and trying to whittle down her mountains of magazines. While she may not have the mansion on a hill, drive the fanciest car, wear a tiara for funsies, or have vasts amounts of money, she is living out Her Version of Happily Ever After.

Pets are Family

Gayle Dantzler retired from The Tribune after 37 years as a reporter and editor. She has been a caregiver of pets from her earliest memories. When Gayle and her husband, the late Frantz Dantzler, accepted a dog or cat into their household, that animal became the Dantzlers’ responsibility for its lifetime. With the commitment came all the joys and problems that one might expect from a sometimes mismatched menagerie. This experience is the basis of Pets are Family — because pets are family! Pop Geek

Will Allen moved to South Bend in 2009 after spending more than a decade in Bloomington, Ind. He's a graduate of Ball State University with a B.A. in telecommunications. As a pop culture junkie and compulsive list maker, Will's lifelong hobby of collecting music and movies has made him an authority on just about anything you'd care to watch or listen to. He even makes a living at it: recommending music, movies (and the occasional book) at an area bookstore. In his spare time, Will enjoys writing and voice-over work. One day he'd like to become part of the pop culture that has fascinated him all his life. Email Will here: i.will.the.thrill@gmail.com

The Natives are Getting Restless

Rhonda is a busy mother whose tribe includes 4 braves (ages 20, 16, 11, and 3) and 1 equally busy chief. She works from home, doing medical transcription for physicians in other parts of the country. This allows her to care for the toddler and ride shotgun on the homework crowd while supporting the family budget. She is a voracious reader and columnist who loves to find the funny side of ordinary life. Her love of gourmet coffee sustains her through countless hours of typing and the wrestling matches that routinely take place on her living room floor. And when the natives get too restless, she turns to her much-loved mochas.
